Balkans’ progress to join EU, but long reform road ahead

Release Date: 29 Nov 2018   |   Bruxelles, Belgique
The European Parliament has approved the latest EU reports on the Western Balkans’ progress towards EU membership, but many reforms remain outstanding. Foreign Affairs Committee Chair David McAllister of the EPP Group says the six countries in the European Commission reports are moving at different speeds on the rule of law, media freedom and economic reform. He urges Kosovo to drop its recently imposed 100% tariff on goods from Serbia and Bosnia. Andrey Kovatchev, the EPP Group’s Shadow Rapporteur of the report on Montenegro, says that the country is among those that have made the most progress, although they also have more do to in fighting corruption, reforming the judiciary and improving environmental protection.
