Sant’Agata Bolognese, 11 July 2019 - Following an exciting pair of races at Misano, Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe makes the trip from the Adriatic coast to the sand dunes of Zandvoort in the Netherlands for round three of the 2019 season. With two qualifying sessions to decide the starting grid for the two 50-minute races - including a rolling start and mandatory pit-stops - action will start with Friday’s free practice sessions at the historic Dutch Grand Prix circuit.
Having claimed a double victory on home soil last time out, Imperiale Racing duo Kikko Galbiati and Vito Postiglione hold a seven-point advantage in the Pro standings over team-mates Karol Basz and Bartosz Paziewski. Local driver Danny Kroes and team-mate Sergei Afanasiev are not too far behind in third, just 14 points adrift of the top of the standings thanks to a successful outing in Misano where they took the #3 Bonaldi Motorsport car to two third places. In doing so, they leapfrogged their Bonaldi team-mates Stuart Middleton and Jack Bartholomew, who took a win on debut at the opening round at Silverstone in May. The Brits lie just five points behind Kroes and Afanasiev, with reigning Lamborghini Super Trofeo Middle East champion Bartholomew teaming up with former British GT4 driver Middleton for the first time this year.
In the Pro-Am category, consistency is proving the key for ArtLine Team Georgia’s Shota Abkhazava and Harald Schlegelmilch. The Georgian/Latvian partnership has yet to finish off the podium and have a big championship lead after taking a win at Misano two weeks ago. They will, however, face a stern challenge from the #21 GT3 Poland car of Grzegorz Moczulski in the Netherlands for top honours.
Having claimed their first class victory at Misano, the #33 Leipert Motorsport of Mikko Eskelinen and Jake Rattenbury closed the points deficit to Nicolas Gomar (AGS Events) in the Am category to just five points. Eskelinen and Rattenbury are just six points clear of the impressive Raffaele Giannoni, who is one of three different winners in four races in the class this season so far.
In the Lamborghini Cup category Gerhard van der Horst has a four-point advantage over brothers Benoît and François Semoulin in the #26 Semspeed car. Hans Fabri (Imperiale Racing) is third in the standings, ahead of Joseph “José” Collado.
The programme for Zandvoort begins on Friday with two one-hour long free practice sessions (FP1 at 11:40 CEST and FP2 at 16:20 CEST), before a 20-minute qualifying session on Saturday. This will be followed by the first of two 50-minute races (at 16:05 CEST), with the second taking place at 10:05 CEST on Sunday. Streaming of both races will be available on the Lamborghini Squadra Corse Facebook page as well as YouTube channel.
