ANCHOR LEAD: Tax time can be, well… taxing. But since 2009 one nonprofit organization has helped over four-million families file their taxes for free and claim over six-billion dollars in refunds. Brian Osuch helps us find out if you quality for the free service this tax season. (:60) SCRIPT: Newsbreak, I'm Brian Osuch. Tax time can be stressful, but the United Way's, Laura Scherler says there is a way to make it more bearable with a free service that's available to those who make less than fifty-seven-thousand dollars a year. CUT: (Scherler) My Free Taxes is a national nonprofit partnership of United Way, Goodwill, The National Disability Institute and The Wal-Mart Foundation. We've been working together since 2009 to provide free federal and state tax preparation and filing services to families across the country. SCRIPT: The IRS' Leonard Oursler says they've has partnered with the United Way to offer even more tax assistance. CUT: (Oursler) The IRS trained certified trained volunteers will provide no cost tax preparation service for low and moderate income tax payers. And with My-Free-Taxes-dot-com, tax payers that choose that option that go there… there is a mechanism that they can get in touch with either an IRS certified volunteer if they're at home or at one of our Volunteer Income Tax Assistant sites across the country.
