Free Tax Preparation And Filing Services For Those Who Need it The Most

Release Date: 08 Feb 2012
Tax day is more than three months away, a mere thought in the back of the mind for many. But did you know that low-income families are among the first to file? Sometimes, they pay a substantial portion of their refund to receive their refund sooner.

In order to help families keep the extra cash in their pocket, a group of national organizations have created the MyFreeTaxes partnership to provide free tax preparation and filing services to families that earn less than $57,000. The partnership supports volunteer-assisted free tax preparation in 100 communities nationwide and at www.myfreetaxes.com. In addition, they will be rolling out mobile vans that will tour the country.

Available for interviews, Laura Scherler, National Director of Income Capacity Building at United Way Worldwide and Melvin Hardy, Senior Tax Consultant for the IRS, can talk about the importance of this free program, and why it is imperative to file early. They can also talk about the changes to tax codes and what you need to know this year.
