Trick−or−Treat to Help Kids in Need!

Release Date: 09 Oct 2012
Teach Your Children about Giving Back; Learn How to Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF

Every year on Halloween, the iconic collection box from UNICEF has been collecting not candy, but coins. For more than 60 years, Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF has been a powerful way for parents to teach their children the value of helping others while expressing themselves creatively and having fun. Funds raised through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF benefits lifesaving programs in 190 countries and territories where UNICEF works.

This year, for the first time, kids will have a chance to design their own collection boxes for the annual Trick-or-Treat campaign. Blank collection boxes are available for kids and adults alike to design their own creation for the new "Create-a-Character" contest. Entries can be submitted online at trickortreatforunicef.org and three winning designs will be part of a limited edition collection in 2012.

Participants who prefer a finished box have new choices this year, too. The traditional Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF box has been given a new look, featuring six spooky new characters – a monster, black cat, princess, pumpkin, vampire and a witch. Collection boxes have become an iconic symbol of the organization as millions of children have gone door-to-door each Halloween to Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF.

Additionally, Key Club International, a student-led service leadership program of Kiwanis International, will continue its support as national sponsor of Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF. Key Club International, the oldest and largest service program for high school students, maintains its longstanding partnership with the U.S. Fund for UNICEF and has raised more than $5 million for UNICEF programs worldwide. Funds raised by Key Club and all Kiwanis-family members through Trick-or-Treat for UNICEF will support The Eliminate Project, which seeks to eliminate maternal and neonatal tetanus.

Available content includes soundbites from Caryl Stern, and B-roll.
