adidas this week introduces the world to TRIONDA, the Official Match Ball of FIFA World Cup 26™, by taking over skylines across the United States, Canada and Mexico.
The brand opened the week with a tribute on the Exosphere - the iconic exterior of Sphere in Las Vegas, showcasing the FIFA World Cup Official Match Balls that have preceded TRIONDA, starting with Telstar. Designed for the 1970 FIFA World Cup hosted in Mexico, Telstar was the first Official Match Ball ever and celebrated the first FIFA World Cup™ to be televised in color. The animation then featured some of the world’s most iconic Official Match Balls in recent memory, including Jabulani (South Africa 2010), Brazuca (Brazil 2014) and more.
The brand is now taking to the skies in New York, Toronto and Mexico City - all host cities of FIFA World Cup 26™ - to bring next summer’s Official Match Ball to life.
Inspired by this year’s host nations, TRIONDA’s design incorporates the Canada, USA and Mexico colours of red, blue and green to symbolise these nations coming together to host the tournament for the first time. Each host nation is also celebrated by the inclusion of iconography significant to the countries, including a Star for the USA, a Maple Leaf for Canada and an Eagle for Mexico.
Last night, TRIONDA was depicted for the first time through a futuristic hologram on the East River in New York City. Within the hologram, some of the biggest names in the game, including reigning World Cup Champion and adidas partner, Lionel Messi, could be seen engaging with the ball. Next summer, just a few miles away, the next FIFA World Cup Champions will be crowned.
Hundreds packed into Brooklyn Bridge Park for an event to honor adidas’ more than 70 year history in the sport and usher in FIFA World Cup 26™ to North America, including adidas athletes and World Cup winners Jürgen Klinsmann (1990 FIFA World Cup Winner - Germany), Cafu (1994, 2002 - Brazil), Zinedine Zidane (1998 - France), Alessandro Del Piero (2006 - Italy) and Xavi (2010 - Spain). The legends also joined the brand for a “First Touch” soccer tournament, capturing the energy of the game and cementing the Match Ball as the first icon of World Cup ‘26.
"It is very special that adidas could gather together all of these World Cup winners. It’s always incredible to see them as we don’t get much chance with our schedules. Great memories, great energy,” said Zinedine Zidane. “And here in New York, where the city is like a movie scene, it’s an amazing stage for the show to come."
At Toronto’s Roundhouse Park at the base of the CN Tower last night, more than 200 gathered to see the TRIONDA hologram light up the sky and take part in interactive games, a photo booth experience and enjoy choreographed performances from some of Canada’s most impressive soccer freestylers.
Finally, tonight, at Estadio Ciudad de México in Mexico City, host city of the Opening Match of FIFA World Cup 26™, crowds will gather to see a TRIONDA hologram featuring Trinity Rodman, Edson Alvarez and David Beckham.
“The World Cup is the biggest moment for our brand in North America in 2026 as we countdown to football’s biggest international tournament,” said Chris Murphy, adidas North America’s Senior Vice President of Brand Marketing. “The energy of our three TRIONDA activations across the U.S., Mexico and Canada mirrors the excitement from fans as we cross our first World Cup milestone.”
We have transcended the pitch and celebrated soccer culture for over 70 years and 18 World Cups, and this tournament represents an unprecedented mobilization of resources and investments from our brand across the United States, Mexico and Canada - including from a marketing perspective.
