- The CLIMAWARM SYSTEM debuts at the pinnacle event for winter sports this month
As elite athletes prepare for the pinnacle of the winter sports calendar this month, adidas unveils its innovative CLIMAWARM SYSTEM; a next generation of pre-warming performance technology, engineered for the most demanding cold-weather competitions.
Including a pre-warming jacket and trousers to be worn by some of winter sport’s leading athletes, the CLIMAWARM SYSTEM is designed and built for use in critical moments before competition helping to solve one of winter sport’s critical challenges: keeping muscles primed and maintaining peak power in extreme cold.
Ultra-thin Clim8® heating pads are integrated directly into the garments and strategically placed on major power muscle groups, helping to reduce heat loss during warm-up and waiting periods. Featuring Eco and Boost modes, the adaptive system responds to the wearer’s movement and ambient conditions. Via targeted temperature assistance the system provides warmth to the most important areas of the body, when needed most, while a built-in safety mechanism helps prevent overheating.
The jacket and trousers are constructed with a low bulk, performance tuned fabric made to move with the athlete, supporting sprinting, gliding, pushing and launching during warm-ups and pre-start routines. Designed to be worn only before competition and removed at the start line, the system integrates seamlessly into elite race-day routines. The pre-warming technology has been developed alongside world-class winter sport programs and informed by extensive athlete feedback and observations across disciplines including cross-country skiing, bobsleigh and skeleton.
Director of Athlete Performance at adidas, Margherita Raccuglia said: “The CLIMAWARM SYSTEM is designed to address a simple, yet complex challenge faced by athletes at the start line: how to maintain muscle temperature generated during the active warm up and stay powerful in the cold. We know that it's in the pre-race window, during the gap between active warm up and the competition's start, where heat is lost – but it’s also where power retention is needed most. Backed by testing across sports, the CLIMAWARM SYSTEM is engineered to tackle this problem head on, ensuring athletes can maintain optimal muscle temperature and maximise power output through the pre-race window.”
