Beijing 2022 athletes first to get access to Olympic Games footage

10 December 2025 - Athletes from Beijing 2022 will be the first to have access to official Olympic Games footage as part of the Olympian Highlights Programme, a groundbreaking initiative designed to empower Olympians to share their most memorable Olympic moments on their personal social media channels. The programme was approved by the International Olympic Committee (IOC) Executive Board (EB) during its meeting today, and will be expanded in 2026.

KEY FACTS

  • Olympians from Beijing 2022 will be able to request and share official archive clips of their Olympic performances on their personal social media accounts, for non-commercial use.

  • The pilot phase starts in January 2026, with athletes from Beijing 2022 eligible to apply via Athlete365 for a 60-second highlight clip.

  • The initiative is part of the wider IOC effort to create more opportunities for athletes to celebrate their journey at the Olympic Games.

PHASE ONE: WHO CAN APPLY?

As part of the pilot phase, Olympians who competed at Beijing 2022 can apply for footage as of 6 January 2026 via Athlete365. They will receive a 60-second clip in three formats, featuring competition highlights and, where applicable, Olympic medal ceremony footage.

This content can be published on personal or official athlete accounts, for non-commercial use only. The programme will be expanded later in 2026, prioritising athletes who competed at Paris 2024 and those who will participate in Milano Cortina 2026.

Further details on how to apply will soon be available on Athlete365.

CREATING MORE OPPORTUNITIES FOR ATHLETES TO CELEBRATE THEIR OLYMPIC JOURNEY

The Olympian Highlights Programme is part of the wider IOC effort to create more opportunities for athletes to promote their Olympic experiences, whilst respecting the rights of the IOC’s media rights-holders.

Official photos from the last four editions of the Olympic Summer Games and the last three editions of the Winter Games are already available to athletes free of charge through their Athlete365 accounts. During Milano Cortina 2026, new photos will be added in real time for athletes competing at the event.

Since Paris 2024, athletes can showcase  their Olympic journey with a global audience by sharing audio/video recordings, up to two minutes each, from competition venues (up to one hour before the start of their competition and after leaving the mixed zone and doping control station); from training venues and practice areas; from the Olympic Village; and at the opening and closing ceremonies.

Additionally, photos taken both inside and outside accredited areas, such as the Olympic Village and competition venues, can be shared on athletes’ personal digital handles, provided that the guidelines are respected.

The full social media guidelines for Milano Cortina 2026 are available here.
