Beijing 2022 live sites ready to share magic of winter sports

Release Date: 02 Feb 2022

02 Feb 2022 - Seven official Beijing 2022 Live Sites opened today, which will provide an opportunity for Chinese residents to experience and engage with the Olympic Winter Games Beijing 2022 through live broadcast coverage of the competitions and a rich programme of cultural and sports initiation activities.

The Live Sites are spread across a number of locations in China. There are three in the host city of Beijing (the Cultural Square in Shijingshan, the Olympic Forest Park in Chaoyang and the Haidian Park Open Air Theatre); one each in the mountain venue clusters of Zhangjiakou and Yanqing; and one each in the cities of Ma’anshan and Dunhuang.

Entrance to the Live Sites is free for Chinese residents. At each location they are able to experience the thrill of the Olympic Winter Games through live coverage on a giant screen showing all the action from the competitions and the Opening and Closing Ceremonies.

In between the sporting action, there’s also a range of live music and performances for spectators to enjoy on a central stage, which encompass local and traditional folk culture, Chinese festival elements, and ice- and snow-themed performances.

Crucially, each Live Site provides an opportunity for Chinese people of all ages to try out winter sports for themselves, building on the organisers’ ambition to engage 300 million Chinese people with winter sports through hosting the Games.

There are a range of initiation activities on ice and snow, allowing people to learn about winter sports such as skating, skiing, curling, ice hockey and biathlon, and there are virtual and eSports activations for gaming enthusiasts.

The Live Sites also contain exhibitions tracing the history of winter sports and the performances of Chinese athletes at the Olympic Winter Games, information about the Games, and activations from domestic sponsors and Worldwide Olympic Partners.

The construction and operation of Live Sites is an important part of host city activities for every edition of the Olympic Winter Games, and they play a key role in the promotion and communication of Beijing 2022, building excitement and creating a festive atmosphere across the country for the duration of the Games.

Official operation of the Live Sites starts on 2 February, running until the end of the Olympic Winter Games.
