Once again performing strongly in Europe*, Kia has achieved all-time record retail sales in March and during the first quarter of 2014 – according to the company's latest sales data.

Across 30 countries in Europe, Kia recorded sales of 40,479 units during March – up 10.1% on March 2013 – and 89,450 sales through the first three months of 2014, a rise of 7.4% over last year's first quarter.

The brand's top five markets in Europe so far this year are the United Kingdom, with over 21,631 sales – a rise of 12.6% – followed by Germany (11,602 units), Italy (8,306, up 15%), France (7,591) and Spain (5,707, up by 52.6%). Significantly, more than 55% of the cars Kia delivered to customers in Europe this year were made in Europe (49,701 units) .

"These best-ever monthly and quarterly sales figures confirm that Kia is not only maintaining its long-term growth trend in Europe, but also accelerating sales as more and more people across the region are coming to fully appreciate the numerous benefits of Kia ownership," comments Michael Cole, COO, Kia Motors Europe.

"Kia has achieved sales volume growth in Europe every year since 2008, increasing our market share from 1.7% to 2.7% in 2013. This success, often going against the overall market down-turn, is a tribute to Kia's exciting design-led product range, the high quality of our vehicles with their unique 7-Year, 150,000 km warranty and to the high levels of customer care delivered by our dealers," adds Cole.

The top-selling Kia models in Europe during 2014 have been the Sportage (24,144 units) and the cee'd model family (18,876) – incorporating hatchback, wagon and pro_cee'd, ahead of the Rio (15,383), Picanto (14,006), Venga (6,681) and Carens (5,907).
