Fulfilled DLG-APPROVED criteria – Very good distribution quality for cattle and pig slurry – Easy of operation
The 15-meter VOGELSANG BlackBird trailing shoe boom with two VOGELSANG ExaCut ECQ precision distributors from Vogelsang GmbH & Co. KG, based in Essen, Germany, now carries the DLG-APPROVED test mark for a further five years in the test modules "Functionality and quality of work" and "Handling, ease of operation, service and maintenance”. The trailing shoe applicator was tested according to the DLG test framework for slurry application technologies at the DLG Test Center for Technology and Farm Inputs, operated by DLG TestService in Gross-Umstadt, Germany.
Summary of Results: The product fully meets the test criteria set out in the DLG test framework in both test modules. The BlackBird trailing shoe applicator presented good distribution quality for both cattle and pig slurry, as well as rapid achievement of full working width. Operation and maintenance were characterized by simple work steps that can be carried out without special tools.
DLG Test Module: "Functionality and quality of work"
This module evaluates two criteria: Lateral distribution of cattle and pig slurry and the time to reach full spading width. Carried out on a test bench, the lateral distribution is determined in accordance with DIN EN 13740-2 standards using two flow rates. The slurry is collected separately under each outlet and then weighed. From these values, the mean deviation (MD) and coefficient of variation (CV) are calculated. The smaller these values, the better the distribution.
The tested product showed excellent distribution quality for both cattle and pig slurry at both flow rates. In three out of four tests, the mean deviation was well below 2%, earning the highest possible DLG rating (++) in all test results.
For the start-up wedge, the time in seconds is measured until slurry flows from all outlets. The shorter the time, the quicker the full working width is reached. The tested BlackBird applicator reached full distribution in a maximum of 2 seconds. The full working width is therefore reached very quickly after the spreading process begins.
DLG Test Module: “Handling, ease of operation, service and maintenance”
In this module, the VOGELSANG BlackBird trailing shoe applicator with ExaCut ECQ distributors achieved equally good results. Typical operating and maintenance tasks were performed by experienced practitioners. The time required for each task was recorded and converted into averages. Tasks included switching from transport to working position and vice versa; greasing all lubrication points; inspecting distributor heads for solid matter; replacing the macerator blades inside the distributor.
The test inspectors rate the accessibility of the maintenance points as excellent. The tasks to be performed can be carried out in an upright posture. Operation and maintenance are also good because the work steps are simple and no special tools are required. Replacing the cutting tools in the distribution head can also be done in a comparatively short amount of time.
Additional Product Information
Available working widths are 12-m and 15-m with a hose spacing of 25 cm for both. The folded transport width is 2.95 m. The system allows direct mounting via 4-point linkage. The system has an integrated catch device and passive leveling system in the center frame. The elongated design is beak-shaped with pointed wear edge for better soil penetration and section control which is either mechanical or hydraulic. The folding mechanism prevents slurry leaking during transport.
The VOGELSANG ExaCut ECQ precision distributor is available with 24, 30, 36, 42, and 48 outlets. The hose diameter is DN 40. In the DLG test, the version of the distributor head with 30 outlets was used with the 15 m boom. Further information here.
