Turkey´s offensive against Kurdish fighters in northern Syria has drawn widespread criticism, after US troops pulled out from the region earlier this month. At the European Parliament, the EPP Group´s Michael Gahler, a member of the Foreign Affairs Committee and Group coordinator on foreign affairs, is calling for stronger pressure on the Turkish government to pull back or face new sanctions. The EU has already imposed an arms embargo on Turkey, and there are new calls to suspend EU membership negotiations.
