19 January 2024 - With the Opening Ceremony just a few hours away, here’s a look at some of the key numbers from the fourth edition of the Winter Youth Olympic Games (YOG) Gangwon 2024.

The YOG in numbers

The Winter YOG are set to welcome 1,802 athletes from 78 National Olympic Committees (NOCs), taking part in 15 disciplines across 7 sports, as well as 1,734 team officials. Thanks to programmes delivered by Gangwon 2024, in collaboration with the PyeongChang 2018 Legacy Foundation, this will include a diverse group of young athletes from countries without a tradition in winter sport. In total there will be 20,000 accredited people attending Gangwon 2024, including 627 media and 289 broadcast personnel, showing the strong interest in the event locally and globally.

Ticketing

Following the launch of the ticketing platform in November 2023, it was announced that 360,000 tickets have now been reserved for events at Gangwon 2024, with organisers continuing their efforts to promote the YOG to people in the four host cities.

Flagbearers

The flags can be carried jointly by both a male and female athlete. A total of 135 flagbearers are set to take part in the Opening Ceremony, 69 male and 66 female, accounting for 51.1 per cent and 48.9 per cent respectively.
