IMF: Mobilizing with Africa

IMF urges to mobilize funds for Africa in fight against pandemic

At today’s “Mobilizing with Africa” event, Kristalina Georgieva, Managing Director of the IMF, underscored the need to help African countries amidst the Covid-19 pandemic. To mitigate the economic fallout in Africa, the Fund would focus on three priorities, she said.

“First, strong solidarity with Africa at a very difficult moment for the continent. Second, mobilizing with Africa. We identified a 114 billion dollars in fiscal needs, already 57 billion delivered, of which 18 billion from the IMF. And also we have contributed to debt relief. Three, more needs to be done. We ought to continue on that journey with Africa. Stand with Africa.”
