14 November 2025 - The Olympic Truce resolution will be introduced to the United Nations (UN) General Assembly in New York on 19 November 2025 at 10 a.m. ET.
Dating back to the ancient Olympic Games in Olympia in 776 BC, the Olympic Truce aims to ensure a halt to hostilities, allowing the safe passage and participation of athletes and spectators for the Olympic and Paralympic Games. The IOC revived the Olympic Truce in 1992, and it is now introduced before every edition of the Games.
The Olympic Truce resolution for Milano Cortina 2026 will be formally submitted to the Member States by the Government of Italy in close collaboration with the IOC, the International Paralympic Committee and the Milano Cortina 2026 Organising Committee.
Milano Cortina 2026 President Giovanni Malagò will introduce the resolution to the UN General Assembly on behalf of Italy, followed by interventions from the Member States and remarks by IOC President Kirsty Coventry.
After the formal adoption, at approximately 12 p.m. ET there will be a joint media opportunity with President Coventry and President Malagò in the East Foyer outside the UN General Assembly Hall in New York (see access details below).
More information about the Olympic Truce can be found at Olympic Truce - Promoting an Ancient Greek Tradition and olympictruce.org.
