08 May 2025 - The Organising Committee for the Olympic and Paralympic Games LA28 (LA28) has announced the venues for the Opening and Closing Ceremonies of the Games, confirming a dual-location approach that reflects the city’s long-standing sporting heritage and modern infrastructure.

The Los Angeles Memorial Coliseum and the Stadium in Inglewood will host the Ceremonies, offering a distinctive backdrop for key moments of the Games. The decision remains largely consistent with the 2017 candidature plan and follows recent refinements to LA28’s Olympic venue masterplan. A revision to the location of the Paralympic Closing Ceremony has also been confirmed, with all other ceremonies retaining their original venues.

On 14 July 2028, the Olympic Games will open with a unique celebration shared between the Coliseum and the Stadium in Inglewood. The event will mark the Coliseum’s third time hosting Olympic ceremonies, having previously done so in 1932 and 1984, and will represent the first Olympic use of the Stadium in Inglewood.

This dual-venue approach also reflects the competition schedule, which will see athletics take place in the first week of the Games and swimming in the second. Both disciplines will be staged at the two respective venues, enabling efficient planning and enhanced operational use.

The Olympic Games Closing Ceremony will take place at the Coliseum on 30 July, celebrating the conclusion of the Games in one of the most iconic venues in Olympic history.

For the Paralympic Games, the Opening Ceremony is scheduled for 15 August at the Stadium in Inglewood. The Paralympic Closing Ceremony will follow on 27 August at the LA Memorial Coliseum, offering a symbolic conclusion to the city’s first-ever Paralympic Games.

These Ceremonies form part of a wider strategy by LA28 to deliver Games that are both sustainable and cost-effective. In line with the recommendations of Olympic Agenda 2020, the Organising Committee is making extensive use of existing and already planned venues. The choice of the Coliseum and the Stadium in Inglewood reinforces this commitment — making use of iconic, high-capacity venues that are already embedded in the community and reducing the need for new permanent infrastructure.

The Olympic Games LA28 will take place between 14 and 30 July 2028, followed by the Paralympic Games, which will be held from 15 until 27 August.
