Fantastic weather was par for the weekend at the Sentul International Circuit for the fourth stop of the season's Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo series. Teams and drivers from nine Asian countries were present for the Super Trofeo races and a host of other Lamborghini events including a stunning car parade, along with distinguished guests from Pertamina, Jakarta's super-sports car community, plus local celebrities, actors and singers.
Also at the track for the weekend events were a fleet of the former Super Trofeo Gallardo, present for the local Lamborghini Jakarta Pertamina championship, while Indonesia's first ever Lamborghini Esperienza event kicked off at the circuit, giving customers the experience of driving Lamborghini road cars on the track. However the focus of Sunday was the ever brilliantly performing Lamborghini Huracán LP 620-2 which continued to amaze onlookers and set new benchmarks for the AM and PRO-AM racing community.
Racing in the home territory of one of the Lamborghini Blancpain Super Trofeo Asia's main sponsors, Pertamina, "Is always a great pleasure, filled with excitement and challenge" said Giorgio Sanna, Head of Motorsport for Automobili Lamborghini. Andrea Baldi General Manager of Automobili Lamborghini Asia Pacific also commented before the race, saying "Lamborghini is delighted to return to Indonesia, the home country of Pertamina. Sentul is an exciting circuit where local motorsport culture and support for the series is always overwhelmingly passionate."
Both the first and second race were started under safety car procedure, giving those at the front of the qualifying grid a slight advantage. Malaysian star of the Lamborghini Squadra Corse Young Driver Program, PRO driver Afiq Yazid has had a cracking season so far, again seeing success in race 1, qualifying and finishing in first place. Japanese driver Toshiyuki Ochiai qualified in third but unfortunately did not finish, leaving Anthony Liu of China and Davide Rizzo from Italy to finish second in PRO-AM, followed by Indian driver Armaan Ebrahim and Sri Lankan Dilantha Malagamuwa, with the other Chinese-Italian duo, Yuan Bo and Eduardo Liberati, took first in class. Among the AM drivers, Fitra Eri and Andrew Haryanto, both from Indonesia, placed first, while Akira Mizutami and Hajime Noma of Japan took second.
The afternoon saw racers take to the grid for the second time, again with Afiq Yazid qualifying in first, followed by Yuan Bo and Eduardo Liberati. Local racer Ananda Mikola who took the wheel of the new Huracán car for the first time performed well, but Afiq Yazid dominated once more, placing first overall. Yuan Bo and Eduardo Liberati took first in class, followed by Anthony Liu and Davide Rizzo, then Toshiyuki Ochiai in third. Among AM racers, Akira Mizutami and Hajime Noma placed first, followed by Kimura Tekashi and Fitra Eri and Andrew Haryanto.
Johnson Yaptonaga took the victory in the local Gallardo championship, crowing a successful day for Automobili Lamborghini.
As two days of sensational and challenging racing in Sentul draws to a close, Lamborghini, Blancpain, the drivers and teams turn their sights on the final Asian stop of the tour, the second Shanghai race weekend. The second Shanghai stop this season is certain to be highly competitive, as it will be the teams' last chance to position themselves for the upcoming final in Sebring, USA. The grand final will see drivers from all three Super Trofeo Series (European, Asian and USA) go head to head for the global podium and ultimate prize.
