GT3 Junior Drivers Testa and Moncini (Scuderia Villorba Corse) dominate opening race from pole
Sant’Agata Bolognese/Hockenheim, 13 September 2026 – Lamborghini picked up its first victory of the International GT Open season, as Scuderia Villorba Corse’s Rodrigo Testa and Leonardo Moncini led from start to finish at the wheel of their #63 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 in race one at Hockenheim.
The success is the first in the championship for the Sant’Agata Bolognese brand since 2024, and the first for Testa and Moncini, both of whom are part of the Lamborghini GT3 Junior Driver Program. Having taken a podium finish earlier in the season at Spa-Francorchamps, the victory marks a breakthrough for the pairing, who sit sixth in the drivers’ standings with two rounds remaining.
With momentum steadily building over the previous rounds, Testa and Moncini came into the weekend optimistic of a strong performance. Things began positively in free practice, with the #63 setting the fifth-quickest time in the first session before consolidating their preparations with 15th in the second. Come qualifying, the pace of the Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 was evident as Moncini comfortably claimed pole position with a time of 1m37.189 which was some three-tenths of a second quicker than the next-best car.
Off the rolling start for the 70-minute opening race on Saturday, Moncini held onto the lead of the race ahead of the chasing #33 McLaren, establishing a slender advantage of just under a second in the early stages. Before long, the safety car was deployed with 53 minutes left following an incident between two cars at turn 11. That bunched the pack up again, but Moncini was unperturbed at the head of the field, setting the fastest lap and leading all the way until the mandatory driver-change pit-stop, where he handed over to Testa.
With the second-placed McLaren required to serve an additional five-seconds handicap time at its pit-stop, the pressure was then off the #63 crew, with Testa emerging from the pit window phase with an increased lead of over five seconds. Testa’s pace in the second stint was superb and the Portuguese Italian driver pulled away even further as the race wore on. Running smoothly, the #63 Huracán GT3 EVO2 was never seriously threatened throughout and came home to claim victory by an impressive 13.196s at the flag.
Sunday’s second race was played out in variable conditions. Testa qualified ninth on the grid and moved up a position as the pole-sitting Porsche spun at turn one. Moncini took over at the stops, but conditions deteriorated so much in the closing stages that the #63 could only manage 17th at the flag.
Leonardo Moncini (#63 Scuderia Villorba Corse): “It has been a simply mega day. We showed the pace in qualifying and that the Huracán is still a very fast car. I had a very good start and, even though I had a small problem with braking, the car was mega; the team did a really good job today, also Rodrigo.”
Rodrigo Testa (#63 Scuderia Villorba Corse): “This is a really well-deserved result for the whole team, Leonardo did a really good first stint; we have struggled a little bit this year in terms of the championship but to get a victory here, one that we didn’t really expect, is a really good feeling. We want to keep this momentum going for the remainder of the season.”
The next round of the International GT Open season will head to Monza for the final endurance race of the year, on the weekend of 26-27 September, with the final round taking place at Barcelona on the weekend of 24-25 October.
