Mortara and Grosjean to spearhead SC63 in penultimate IMSA Endurance Cup round of the year
Sant’Agata Bolognese, 16 September 2025 – The Lamborghini SC63 enters the penultimate round of the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship Endurance Cup season at the Indianapolis Motor Speedway for the Battle on the Bricks with momentum on its side following a morale-boosting result at the previous round.
Edoardo Mortara returns to the GTP class for the first time since the Daytona 24 Hours in January, standing in for Mirko Bortolotti and teaming up with fellow Lamborghini Factory Driver Romain Grosjean in the #63 LMDh prototype.
With just two rounds remaining in the IMSA season, the team is targeting another positive weekend after producing its best race performance so far last time out at Watkins Glen. With Grosjean and Daniil Kvyat at the helm in the six-hour race, the #63 led for large portions of the wet-dry enduro, eventually finishing seventh after a late stop for fuel and energy.
The 3.925km (2.439-mile), 14-turn Indianapolis Road Course was the scene of the Lamborghini SC63’s breakthrough race last season as well, with Grosjean again making the most of a wet track to the play to the #63’s strengths. The Frenchman famously charged through the field from 10th to take the lead in the opening hours before contact with a GTD car ended the race prematurely.
Keen to bounce back from a disappointing race at Watkins Glen is the #9 Pfaff Motorsports GTD Pro combination of Marco Mapelli and Andrea Caldarelli. Mapelli returns to the line-up after missing the 6 Hours of the Glen due to his participation in the Nürburgring 24 Hours. The #9 Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2 endured a mixed weekend in Upstate New York, retiring in the race due to a technical issue after Caldarelli put the car on pole position in qualifying.
In GTD, the aims are the same for the pair of Huracán GT3 EVO2s from Wayne Taylor Racing and Forte Racing. The #45 WTR crew of Danny Formal, Trent Hindman and Graham Doyle will again be on double duty as all three will contest the penultimate round of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America championship. For Hindman and Formal, they will be looking for better fortunes this weekend after a dramatic late-race retirement at Virginia International Raceway. The pairing is in good form, having taken victory in the Mosport Sprint Cup race in June.
At the wheel of the #78 Forte Racing Lamborghini Huracán GT3 EVO2, Mario Farnbacher and Misha Goikhberg will also be looking to deliver on recent promise. The duo challenged for victory in Mosport and finished second on the road before a penalty dropped them outside the top 10.
In addition to the Battle on the Bricks, Lamborghini Squadra Corse is proud to be supporting IMSA’s Resilient Racers program, an initiative to raise awareness of children bravely facing paediatric cancer and other serious illnesses. The Austin Hatcher Foundation for Pediatric Cancer and Camp Boggy Creek are the two charity partners in partnership with IMSA this weekend.
Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s Resilient Racer for the Battle on the Bricks is Franco Renhack, from Ponte Vedra, Florida. Franco has lived with epilepsy since he was 18 months old and has been a regular attendee of Camp Boggy Creek, a medical camp for children based in Eustis, Florida. Automobili Lamborghini Squadra Corse is proud to carry Franco’s name on the #63 Lamborghini SC63 throughout the weekend.
