22 Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2 entries head to home of Chinese Grand Prix

Shanghai, 13 May 2025 – Promising to outshine even its thrilling April season-opener in Sydney, Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia charges into the second encounter of 2025 from May 15-18 at the home of the Chinese Grand Prix, the mighty 5.451km Shanghai International Circuit. There, already-intense rivalries will be renewed as the impressive international line-up of teams and drivers resume their missions to seize the 2025 PRO, PRO-AM, AM and Lamborghini Cup titles in a dazzling line-up of Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo EVO2s.

Stamping early authority in the PRO ranks were SJM Theodore Racing’s Charles Leong and series newcomer Alex Denning after winning both opening 32-lap encounters in Australia to earn them a 10-point advantage at the top of the class leaderboard. However, such is the extraordinary depth of talent amongst this year’s entry that there is no doubt the DW Evans GT-run pair will once again need a faultless weekend to replicate their Sydney success.

Leipert Motorsport’s young guns Ethan Brown of Singapore and Swede Hampus Eriksson, both series newcomers, got their Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia campaign off to a blinding start by finishing second overall in race one, setting the fastest lap for good measure, to lie second in the PRO category after two races. In Shanghai, Brown is joined by 20-year-old German Jacob Reigel. Reigel joined Liepert Motorsport’s 2024 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe campaign, earning admiration with a podium finish on his debut.

A strong start from DW Evans GT’s championship rookie Nazim Azman alongside Emilien Carde, fourth last season despite missing a round, puts the formidable pair just 11 points off the PRO lead heading into round two. Equal on 20 points is the BC Racing PRO line-up of 2024 vice runners-up Gavin Huang and Jonathan Cecotto, on the podium twice in Australia and race winners in Shanghai last season.

Contesting his first full season with the series, and racing solo as a PRO in round one, Lamborghini Bundang by Racegraph’s Peter Li Zhicong is joined in Shanghai by Gerald Goh’s Sydney team mate Lee Jungwoo on a two-driver PRO entry.

Taking the opening PRO-AM honours of the season with a class pole and victory were super-quick Chinese duo Liu Kaishun and Cao Qikuan, now under LK Motorsport by Climax Racing. A runner-up finish in race two sees them top of the PRO-AM leaderboard on 28 points, but two podium finishes from Korean squad SQDA-GRIT Motorsport’s Liang Jiatong of China and reigning AM champion and a double winner in Shanghai in 2024 Brian Lee Changwoo puts them just three points behind.

Equal on 18 points in the PRO-AM standings are Liu and Cao’s team mates Lu Zhiwei and Ling Kang, and Le Mans 24 Hours winner Ho-pin Tung and Z.Speed team mate Chen Chunhua. BC Racing’s Johnson Huang, racing this season with 16-year-old son Brian, lies fifth in class after two races ahead of Arrows Racing PRO-AM line-up of Malaysian star Weiron Tan and seasoned series campaigner Dr. Ma Chi Min.

Climax Racing’s Huang Kuisheng, who partnered fellow PRO Gao Yujia in Australia, switches to the PRO-AM ranks in Shanghai alongside Han Huilin. Han, the 2019 Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia AM champion, brings a wealth of experience to the team and the pair could well upset the form book in Shanghai. Meanwhile, Shanghai sees the welcome return of Madness Racing with a two-driver PRO-AM entry.

Championship newcomers Li Dongsheng and Li Donghui impressed on their debut by converting their pole position into victory in the opening race of the season, a runner-up finish in race two giving the Climax Racing drivers a seven-point advantage over AM challenger Suttiluck Buncharoen. The True Vision Motorsports Thailand driver took a well-earned race two victory to put him ahead of Leipert Motorsport’s Song Jiajun on the AM leaderboard.

Reigning Lamborghini Cup champions Haziq and Hairie Oh of HZO Fortis Racing Team by Absolute Racing impressed on their AM debut together with a double-digit points haul, a score matched by series newcomers Umar Abdullah and Dypo Fitramadhan of Delta Garage Racing Team by Absolute Racing. Kam Lung Racing’s Kenneth and Bertram Lau currently sit sixth in the points, and will be looking to move up the leaderboard in Shanghai.

Lamborghini Cup protagonists Supachai Weeraborwornpong of Siamgas Corse, winner of both races in Sydney, and race two pole-sitter Batmobile Racing’s Kumar Prabakaran, are joined in Shanghai by Lamborghini Bundang by Racegraph’s Gerald Goh and Samson Chan. Goh started the season racing alongside Lee Jungwoo in the PRO-AM ranks, and now teams up with Chan in the Lamborghini Cup class for China.

Firmly established as the home of Chinese motorsport and venue for the country’s Grand Prix, the Hermann Tilke-designed Shanghai International Circuit was opened in 2004, and has since hosted rounds of the world’s leading international championships. Round two of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia 2025 season starts on Friday, 16 May with two one-hour free practice sessions. The two 15-minute qualifying sessions to set the grids for each of the 50 minute-plus-leader races starts at 10:15 local time on Saturday. Race one blasts off at 13:25 the same day, followed by the final race of the weekend starting at 11:55 on Sunday (all times UTC+08:00). Both races will be live streamed on the Lamborghini Squadra Corse YouTube channel.
