Lamborghini Super Trofeo champions crowned in Imola

Release Date: 17 Nov 2017
Spinelli-Grenier
Sant'Agata Bolognese/Imola, November 17th 2017 - All the titles still in play were assigned during the sixth and last round of the three continental series of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo 2017. At the Imola circuit, which will be also hosting the Lamborghini World Final starting tomorrow, the duo of Antonelli Motorsport, formed by Loris Spinelli and Mikaël Grenier, was crowned European champion in the PRO class. The two drivers ended the season scoring their sixth victory, after Raphael Abbate and Yuki Nemoto (VS Racing) had taken their first win in Race 1. In the same class, instead, Riccardo Agostini and the American Trent Hindman dominated both races with the car of Prestige Performance and won the title in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America. In the Asia series, Kei Cozzolino and Afiq Yazid scored a double success, after they had already mathematically conquered the PRO title during the previous round at Shanghai.
LAMBORGHINI SUPER TROFEO EUROPE
Four were the crews fighting for the title in the PRO, but the victory went to Mikaël Grenier and Loris Spinelli. The Italian-Canadian crew, which came to this last round as standings leader, confirmed their primacy by scoring a second place and a win in Race 2. Raphael Abbate and Yuki Nemoto, who had been pursuing their first victory since the opening round of Monza, took their first win with VS Racing in Race 1. Vito Postiglione and Jonathan Cecotto, who were just three points behind Grenier and Spinelli and second in the standings before the Imola round, were instead very unlucky. A problem with the rear right wheel, probably due to debris, forced Postiglione to make a pit stop after only six minutes from the start of Race 1. This episode forced the duo of Imperiale Racing to move up from the back thus ending in eighth position. Nicolas Costa and Edoardo Liberati, instead, finished third during their first race of the season, with a car of  VS Racing. In Race 2, with Grenier starting from the pole position, everything was easier for him and Spinelli. Behind them,  Rik Breukers and Axcil Jefferies (GDL Racing)  always remained at a short distance, perhaps also because of  the safety car that entered the track a couple of times. Cecotto and Postiglione, instead, finished third. Christopher Dreyspring and Liang Jiatong triumphed in the PRO-AM, after winning Race 1 with VS Racing, the same team with which the Poles Andrej Lewandowski and Teodor Myszkowski had already won the AM title during the previous round at the Nürburgring. At Imola, the two Poles shared the class victories with Raffaele Giannoni, who finished sixth overall in Race 2, with the Huracán Super Trofeo of Automobile Tricolore . Lastly, the Dutchman Gerard Van Der Horst (Van Der Horst Motorsport) shared the two victories with his teammate, William Van Deyzen, and conquered the title in the Lamborghini Cup for the second year in a row.
LAMBORGHINI SUPER TROFEO NORTH AMERICA
At Imola, Riccardo Agostini and Trent Hindman took the PRO title of the North America series. The crew of Prestige Performance was the absolute protagonist, first thanks to the pole position taken by the Italian driver, then thanks to the victory  in both races, thus reaching a total of seven wins scored this year.  There is an Italian driver at the "top "also in the PRO-AM, which saw Edoardo Piscopo and the nineteen-year-old Taylor Proto taking a second class place and a victory with the team US RaceTronics. It has been a successful day also for Austin Versteeg (Change Racing), who fought till the end to get the title. The Japanese Yuki Harata, instead, took two class victories and was crowned AM champion. His teammate of Dream Racing Motorsport, Ryan Hardwick, scored two wins out of two races in the Lamborghini Cup, even though the title was taken by the Colombian Juan Perez (Antonelli Motorsport). Jeroen Mul (Change Racing) and Brandon Gdovic (DAC Motorsports ), instead, got to the podium in both races and took respectively the second and the third place.
LAMBORGHINI SUPER TROFEO ASIA
At Imola, Kei Cozzolino and Afiq Yazid celebrated the PRO title of the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Asia with two wins. The PRO-AM title was instead conquered by the duo of GDL Racing formed by  Nigel Farmer and Rik Breukers (who scored a third and a second place). The latter also took his second title of the season, after winning the Middle East series at the beginning of this year. Even if the Indonesian Andrew Haryanto had already taken the AM title, both Imola races were won by the Argentinian Andrés Josephsohn (GDL Racing). In the Lamborghini Cup, the title went to the Thai Supachai Weeraborwornpong (Siam Gas Racing Team), who shared the two wins with the Italian Gabriele Murroni (Petri Corse). Haryanto, crewed with Milos Pavlovic on the car of X-One Racing Team, scored two second overall places and a double win in the PRO-AM. In Race 1, the bottom step of the podium was taken by the duo of FFF Racing Team formed by Richard Goddard and Jack Bartholomew.
The next event is scheduled tomorrow with the first  of the two days of the Lamborghini World Final, which will see all the main protagonists of the three continental series at the start. The day will kick off with the warm-up and qualifying sessions. The first 50-minute race with a mandatory pit-stop, for the classes AM and Lamborghini Cup, will start at 1:20 p.m.. The race for the classes PRO and PRO-AM will instead kick off at 3:30 p.m.. On Sunday, the two final races of the weekend will start respectively at 10.20 a.m. (AM/Lamborghini Cup) and at 2:00 p.m. (PRO/PRO-AM).

Riccardo Agostini/Prestige Performance (PRO champion North America): " Hindman and I concluded our experience in the Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America in the best way, by taking two wins on my home track. We’ve been improving race after race, with a growing performance by the team and us drivers until we managed to get the title".
Kei Cozzolino/Clazzio Racing (PRO champion Asia): "We arrived in Imola  with the certainty of the title but with a low profile; we tried to do our best and will aim at doing well also in the World Final.
