Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe ready to light up the night at Misano

Release Date: 19 Jun 2018
Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europa
After 5 years, the Misano circuit will return to host the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe. The third of the six double rounds of the season will take place this weekend (June 23 and 24). After the Monza and Silverstone rounds, the continental series will be back in Italy to present another exciting challenge with a line-up of almost 50 cars and the absolute novelty of the two Saturday’s races taking place at night, in addition to an unusual subdivision that will group into a single line-up the AM and Lamborghini Cup classes and into a different one the PRO and PRO-AM categories.
With two victories to his credit Giacomo Altoé will start the race weekend as the PRO class leader. In his first season in the one-make series for Huracán Super Trofeo Evos, the 17-year-old driver of the Antonelli Motorsport team, made his debut on the Monza circuit and immediately scored a win together with the young Dutchman Job Van Uitert. In England, he took another victory together with the returning Daniel Zampieri, who will share the cockpit with him also at Misano. The Altoè/Zampieri duo recently claimed a race win in the Italian GT sharing a Lamborghini Huracán GT3 car. Behind Altoè in the standings is the crew of Imperiale Racing formed by Karol Basz and Vito Postiglione, who also scored two wins and are now 7 points from the top of the ranking. Right behind them, by only ten points, is the duo of Bonaldi Motorsport formed by James Pull and Kelvin Snoeks, who took to the podium three times and are among the most consistent of the group. Eyes will also be focused on their teammates Fredrik Blomstedt and Patrick Kujala, who took third place at Silverstone. But so far Kikko Galbiati and Joffrey De Narda have also done well and got the lowest step of the podium in the first round at Monza, with the colors of the Antonelli Motorsport team.
The 2017 champion of the highest class, Loris Spinelli and the Colombian Juan Perez scored three wins out of four races with the third car of Antonelli Motorsport. Takashi Kasai, victorious at Monza together with Philipp Wlazik with the colors of VS Racing, has to recover a gap of 14 points over the previously mentioned drivers, but at Misano the Japanese will share the cockpit with the American August MacBeth. Immediately behind, by only three points, is the Scandinavian duo of the Target Racing team formed by the “rookie” Simon Larsson and the 2016 PRO champion Dennis Lind. Then, there is the other pairing of Vincenzo Sospiri Racing made up of Edoardo Liberati and Hans-Peter Koller, who took their first podium at Silverstone and finished second in class in Race 2, after the Italian had been the fastest of all in Q2. However, the protagonists could also be the two crews of Iron Lynx Motorsport that took to the podium in England, namely the one consisting of Lorenzo Bontempelli and Emanuele Zonzini and that formed by Stefano Colombo and Francesca Linossi.
In the AM category, the current class leader is the Pole Andrej Lewandowski (VS Racing), who scored two wins in crew with MacBeth at Silverstone, but this time he will be paired with Piero Necchi. Immediately behind, by only six points, is Raffaele Giannoni, who dominated the Monza weekend with the car of Automobile Tricolore. Only four points behind him are the Germans Manuel Lauck and Florian Scholze (Dörr Motorsport).
So far, there have been four different winners in the Lamborghini Cup, in which the Dutchman Gerard Van der Horst will challenge again his teammate and compatriot William Van Deyzen. The two drivers, who are separated by only seven points, are respectively ranked first and second and took a win each. The Thai Supachai Weeraborwornpong (Team Lazarus) and the Frenchman Joseph Collado (AGS Events) have both a victory to their credit and are respectively ranked third and fourth in the Lamborghini Cup standings.
The race weekend will kick off on Friday with the two free practice sessions lasting one hour each and the two twenty-minute qualifying sessions for the AM and Lamborghini Cup classes, starting at 10:45 p.m. CEST. The two twenty-minute qualifying sessions of the PRO and PRO-AM classes will take place on Saturday starting from 11:15 a.m.. Race 1 of the AM and Lamborghini Cup classes will be held at 9:10 p.m., with the usual 50-minute format, rolling start and mandatory pit-stop. The first of the two races of the PRO and PRO-AM classes will start on Saturday at 10:30 p.m.. Race 2 of the AM and Lamborghini Cup categories will kick off on Sunday at 3:30 p.m., whereas that of the PRO and PRO-AM classes will take place at 5:30 p.m..
Both races can be followed in live streaming on the website squadracorse.lamborghini.com/live-streaming and on the Lamborghini Squadra Corse Facebook page www.facebook.com/LamborghiniSquadraCorse.
