Sant'Agata Bolognese/Monterey, May 11, 2025 – Wayne Taylor Racing added four victories at WeatherTech Raceway Laguna Seca to its five at Sebring International Raceway to continue its strong start to the 2025 Lamborghini Super Trofeo North America season. But several more teams joined in the victory spoils; Flying Lizard Motorsports (Pro-Am), Precision Performance Motorsports (Am); One Motorsports (LB Cup) and MLT Motorsports (LB Cup) also scored at least one win during IMSA’s TireRack.com Monterey SportsCar Championship weekend.

Winning Lamborghini Dealers included Lamborghini Palm Beach (Wayne Taylor Racing, Flying Lizard Motorsports, Precision Performance Motorsports), Lamborghini Newport Beach (One Motorsports) and Lamborghini Greenwich (MLT Motorsports).

Nick Persing’s weekend double victory in Pro, driving the No. 8 Wayne Taylor Racing, Lamborghini Palm Beach, Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo Evo2, highlighted the 38-car field during the weekend. The Boise State University student won four times in Pro-Am last year, including one race at WeatherTech Raceway, and secured his first two Pro wins this weekend at what he calls his “home track.” Sunday’s win was a thriller; Persing defeated teammate Danny Formal in the sister No. 1 Huracán by just 0.006 of a second.

The phrase “bounce back” also defined the weekend. After failing to start the season opener in Sebring, Flying Lizard’s Slade Stewart and Andy Lee repeated their Pro-Am victory at Monterey of 2024 in Saturday’s Round 3. Incidents took out three of WTR’s cars in Round 3 but two of them, Anthony McIntosh and Brendon Leitch in Pro-Am and Glenn McGee and Graham Doyle in Am, won in Round 4.

David Staab continued a family podium tradition at WeatherTech Raceway; the family’s fourth year of podiums at the track. The PPM driver won in Am in Round 3 after brother Michael Staab won both LB Cup races in a similar No. 48 PPM Huracán in 2024. Nick Groat and Adrian Kunzle split the LB Cup wins, with Kunzle’s Round 4 win snapping Groat’s three-race win streak to start his championship title defense.

Pro

Race 1: Persing, driving the No. 8 Wayne Taylor Racing, Lamborghini Palm Beach, Lamborghini Huracán Super Trofeo Evo2 started fourth overall and third in Pro, mostly trailing the sister No. 1 Huracán of Danny Formal and Hampus Ericsson and the No. 29 TR3 Racing Huracán of Will Bamber and Elias de la Torre IV. But when Ericsson slowed unexpectedly from the lead on Lap 23 with just over 10 minutes left with a mechanical issue, the door opened for a battle between de la Torre and Persing.

Persing made the ultimate winning move on de la Torre at the inside of Turn 11 to lead by 0.036 at the line. A later incident for the No. 29 car opened Pro podium positions for Cameron Lawrence and Werner Neugebauer in the No. 68 RAFA Racing Huracán and Scott Huffaker and Jaden Conwright in the No. 22 World Speed Huracán.

Race 2: Persing started from pole but he needed every ounce of speed to hold onto his victory as he led all but five laps of the 31-lap, 50-minute race (lost the lead during the pit stop cycle). With a restart with just over two minutes remaining, Persing held off teammate Formal in a two-lap dash for the checkered flag.

Formal, driving the sister No. 1 Huracán he shares with Ericsson, nearly completed a daring over-under passing attempt exiting Turn 11 and appeared to have significant momentum leaving the corner. Formal made a lunge up the inside but came up just short in a fantastic photo finish, only 0.006 of a second behind Persing. In third, ANSA Motorsports’ pair of Colin Queen and Enzo Geraci, one of Lamborghini Squadra Corse’s Young Driver Program winners in 2024, secured their first podium finish of the season.

Pro-Am

Race 1: Pro-Am was a particularly wild affair with four different leaders. Flying Lizard Motorsports, representing Lamborghini Newport Beach, led with both its cars. Its No. 41 Huracán of Marc Miller and Paul Nemschoff stayed out longest within the pit window but fell back behind the No. 67 TR3 Racing Huracán and several other cars thereafter. Andy Lee took over the sister No. 14 Huracán, a fan-favorite pink unicorn livery car he co-drove with Slade Stewart and ascended to the lead. The pair also won in Monterey last year, and got their 2025 season back on-track after failing to start in Sebring.

In their first race for Kaizen Autosport, Darius Trinka and Tadas Karlinskas were second in their No. 11 Huracán. Series returnee AJ Muss and Jackson Lee finished third in the No. 88 Forty7 Motorsports Huracán, rallying to a podium finish after limited practice running.

Race 2: McIntosh and Leitch, in the No. 69 Wayne Taylor Racing, Lamborghini Palm Beach, Huracán matched Persing in leading 26 of 31 laps in this class and only losing the top spot during the pit stop sequence. Flying Lizard Motorsports’ two cars of Paul Nemschoff and Marc Miller (No. 41 Huracán) and Slade Stewart and Andy Lee (No. 14 Huracán) completed the Pro-Am podium.

Am

Race 1: Although five different cars led a lap in Am, Staab, in the No. 48 Precision Performance Motorsports, Lamborghini Newport Beach, Huracán led all but four laps of the 31-lap race. Dean Neuls was second in the No. 70 TR3 Racing Huracán ahead of Lindsay Brewer and Jem Hepworth in the No. 2 RAFA Racing Huracán. The Brewer/Hepworth pair were the first all-female podium finishers in the series at Sebring since 2019 and added their second straight this race.

Race 2: In Am, McGee and Doyle in the No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing, Lamborghini Palm Beach, Huracán led 29 of 31 laps and also only lost the lead in the pit stop sequence. TR3 Racing’s pair of Mateo Siderman (No. 63 Huracán) and Dean Neuls (No. 70 Huracán) locked out the rest of the Am podium. This class had several podium position changes after the final restart.

LB Cup

Race 1: Groat, driving the No. 57 ONE Motorsports, Lamborghini Newport Beach, Huracán enjoyed a race-long battle with Kunzle, making a class switch to the increased 10-car LB Cup grid this race. Kunzle was second in the No. 42 MLT Motorsports Huracán with Mark Brummond third in the No. 52 Forty7 Motorsports Huracán. Brummond finished second both races at Sebring.

Race 2: Kunzle emerged as the first non-Groat winner in this class in 2025. Kunzle won after a late-race battle with Rocky T. Bolduc in the No. 99 RAFA Racing Huracán, with Ray Shahi third in the No. 65 Forte Racing Huracán.

Quotes:

Pro

Travis Houge, Team Principal, Wayne Taylor Racing: “Today is a real testament to what we have built at Wayne Taylor Racing. It is not just multiple programs, it is a full team effort. After our LST results yesterday, we had a whole lot of work to get done and every person who belongs to Wayne Taylor Racing was here until all hours of the night to make sure we could have the performance we had today. Everyone did amazing.”

Nick Persing (No. 8 Wayne Taylor Racing): (After Round 3, Race 1): “This weekend's been amazing. I did my job and tried and follow the No. 1 car the best I can. They had some unfortunate issues, and I wouldn't wish that upon them at all, but it did work in my favor. We're starting on pole tomorrow, which is really good. I haven't started on pole since a karting race years ago! It's been a long time, but I'm really looking forward to it.”

(After Round 4, Race 2): “That was one of the most insane races I've ever done. When it’s Danny behind you, it's not a matter of if he's coming past you, it's when and luckily the time ran out for him right at the end after that drag race! This whole weekend has just been amazing. My home crowd is here, my friends, my family, my partners Sentinel Resource Group, Fremont Bank and Boise State University and so on and a big thank you to them for supporting me. I also want to give a big thank you to Wayne Taylor Racing that gave us an amazing car. Danny and I dominated that race.”

Danny Formal (No. 1 Wayne Taylor Racing):  “First I want to congratulate Nick. Double victory in such a competitive category. Congrats to the team for winning all three of their classes today and sweeping the podium. It has been an up and down weekend for the team and Nick has been the outlier car for everyone, so really proud of that. It was a difficult weekend for Hampus and me and to end up P2 is fantastic. I wanted to give them win to the guys – they deserve it. I tried my hardest. Amazing race to the finish with my teammate. I thought I got it. Amazing drag race to the finish. I tried to side draft as much as I could and three thousandths of a second to the finish; that’s all I had in it. I also want to thank Hampus – he gave me a complete car with amazing tires. Super happy and we still have the Championship lead. Looking forward to the next one.”

Enzo Geraci (No. 4 ANSA Motorsports): “All the hard work paid off. I want to thank all my partners, Lamborghini, my teammates and the team. I like this track a lot, especially the Corkscrew – it’s quite a special corner!”

Pro-Am

Slade Stewart (No. 14 Flying Lizard Motorsports): “We didn't qualify where we wanted to (24th overall and 11th in class), so I was coming from the back. We get through the early stages, and I just started putting down my laps because I wanted to make sure I gave Andy the best car.”

Anthony McIntosh (No. 69 Wayne Taylor Racing): “We were talking about this last night. Brendon and I have been driving together, and I think in the last seven races we won five of them, and then you have a couple of DNFs and almost become a victim of your own success. You’re so used to taking first place; it was shocking to me that that happened yesterday. But I can't say enough for the team. They are really what made this possible today by putting the car back together for my mistake and I just can't say enough. Without Wayne Taylor Racing, we would be nowhere.”

Darius Trinka (No. 11 Kaizen Autosport): “We’re having a lot of fun with the new team; great experience so far. We’re going for the long game which is getting points for the championship. Maybe a bit risky with the (Lizard) car going for the top step of the podium, but we got good points.”

Am

David Staab (No. 48 Precision Performance Motorsports): “It’s super cool that I can follow up on my brother Michael's two wins and class last year. The PPM guys had the car completely dialed in as soon as it rolled off. The start was pretty tight; I was happy to make it through clean and work on extending the gap from there.”

Glenn McGee (No. 10 Wayne Taylor Racing): “Yesterday was a tough day and we had damage. The crew had a lot of work to do, and they actually had the GTD (Grand Touring Daytona class in IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Championship) team come over and help fix the cars. And it was the best Super Trofeo car I've ever had.”

Lindsay Brewer (No. 2 RAFA Racing): “It was a little crazy with the yellow. It was a bit hectic. I started P3 in my class and someone spun out right in front of me, so I had to go into the dirt to avoid them and a bunch of cars passed me. Dropped back a bit but I handed it off my teammate Jem (Hepworth) in P5 and then she brought it home to P3, I know we have a lot more pace and we could win it, but I'll take a P3 after the start.”

LB Cup

Nick Groat (No. 57 One Motorsports): “This is my first time racing with Adrian and it was it was an absolute pleasure. There were just a couple parts of the track where he would just absolutely gain on things, but then Turn 3 and 4 we were able to pull on him. So, it was really a back-and-forth game and it was just so slippery out there, so I just had to really figure out what to do to just keep it on track and get this win.”

Adrian Kunzle (No. 42 MLT Motorsports): “Quite a tough race. Rocky kept pace with me and we got it. It’s been the best weekend so far; really tough competition. Nick (Groat) was great yesterday where I got him once and he got me back, so yeah, it’s been much more racing in LB Cup.”
