Lamborghini Super Trofeo returns to magical Spa-Francorchamps for the 11th year
Release Date: 24 July 2019
Sant’Agata Bolognese/Spa, 24 July 2019 – Following a pair of exciting races on the sand dunes of Zandvoort a fortnight ago, the Lamborghini Super Trofeo Europe series heads to the mythical Spa-Francorchamps for the fourth round of the season, with the title fight evenly poised.
Kikko Galbiati and Vito Postiglione remain at the top of the standings for Imperiale Racing, but their lead in the championship was cut to just one point over the Bonaldi Motorsport duo of Danny Kroes and Sergey Afanasiev. Kroes and Afanasiev finally claimed their breakthrough maiden victory in the Netherlands as inclement weather affected both races. A particularly impressive stint from Kroes - on home soil - was key to getting the first win, with the pair combining perfectly to repeat this feat in Sunday’s second race, leading home Bonaldi team-mates Jack Bartholomew and Stuart Middleton for a one-two. Imperiale Racing’s Karol Basz and Bartosz Paziewski are third in the standings, on 63 points and just nine behind Galbiati and Postiglione after a pair of fourth place finishes at Zandvoort.
Looking to secure their first win of the season are local Belgian drivers Anthony Lambert and Niels Lagrange. The Leipert Motorsport drivers are currently fifth in the championship with 35 points, just four clear of the Micanek Motorsport ACCR partnership of Jakub Knoll and Josef Zaruba.
The Pro-Am category is currently being dominated by the ArtLine Team Georgia pairing of Harald Schlegelmilch and Shota Abkhazava, who have recorded three wins so far this season, including a double last time out in the Netherlands. They have a 36-point advantage over the GT3 Poland driver Grzegorz Moczulski, who will be partnered this weekend by the returning Luca Demarchi.
AGS Events’ Nicolas Gomar returned to winning ways last time out at Zandvoort to extend his lead in the Am standings over Mikko Eseklinen and Jake Rattenbury (Leipert Motorsport), while Belgian siblings Benoit and Francois Semoulin defend their Lamborghini Cup lead over Joseph Collado (AGS Events).
Defending champion Gerhard van der Horst will be keen to secure victory on his comeback to the series, having missed the previous round as well. The weekend’s actions kicks off with two one-hour free practice sessions on Thursday, with both qualifying sessions scheduled for Friday. Race 1 will take place shortly after qualifying at 13:15, while the second race will start at 11:55 on Saturday. Both races will be streamed live on the Lamborghini Squadra Corse YouTube channel and Facebook page.
