Milano Cortina 2026 brings an Italian vibe to the Olympic Review

19 December 2025 – A vibrant preview of the Milano Cortina 2026 Olympic Winter Games is the focus of the latest edition of Olympic Review, the flagship publication of the Olympic Movement.

As the eyes of the world turn towards Italy, Olympic Review explores what makes the upcoming Winter Games unique. Spanning some 22,000km2 from Milan to the Dolomites, a region largely considered to be a pioneer of winter sport and tourism, and incorporating Italy’s exceptional culture, food and fashion, the event promises to be unforgettable for athletes and spectators alike.

Among the features in this edition:

Journalist Gaia Lutz presents a preview of the event in a feature entitled Top of the World, in which she describes how Milano Cortina 2026 will showcase athletic excellence in a region with a long tradition of winter sport.

In a related feature that builds on the motto for the event, “IT’s Your Vibe”, Gaia Lutz also shows how Italy’s vibrant culture will play a starring role in the Games.

Meanwhile, in Moving Mountains, local writer and Corriere della Serra correspondent Marco Bonarrigo describes how Milano Cortina 2026 will unite Italy’s northern region like never before.

As ski mountaineering prepares to make its Olympic debut, Brian Pinelli talks to the Olympic hopefuls, including France’s Emily Harrop, seeking to secure the sport’s first medals in the discipline in a piece entitled High Achievers.

Meanwhile, as the NHL prepares to come Back to Olympic Ice after a 12-year absence, we have an exclusive interview with Florida Panthers’ Sam Reinhart, as other NHL players also talk of their excitement at competing on Italian ice – possibly against their NHL team-mates.

In a series of athlete-focused features, we hear from Australian half-pipe star Scotty James, as he prepares for his fifth appearance at the Winter Games; South Korean skater Cha Junhwan, who made his debut on home ice at PyeongChang 2018 and who shares his passion for his sport; and retired biathlon legend Martin Fourcade, who shares his belief that Milano Cortina 2026 will be unforgettable Games for the athletes competing.

In Ones to Watch, we hear from Andrea Buongiovanni of Gazzetta dello Sport about the Italian stars of the slopes hoping to leave their mark; NBCUniversal’s Nick Zaccardi highlights the women leading the charge for Team USA; and Rachel Pretti of L’Équipe shines a spotlight on the ambitions of France’s Olympic hopefuls.

Finally, in an in-depth historical piece entitled Italy carries a torch for the Games, Swiss journalist Sylvain Bolt explores how the development of winter sport in Italy and the Alps provided an impetus for a thriving tourist industry across the region that remains as vibrant today as it was 100 years ago – legacy in action.
