More success on the slopes for Italy as Giorgia Collomb takes gold in Womens Giant Slalom at Winter Youth Olympic Games

23 January 2024 - Giorgia Collomb wins Italy’s second skiing gold of Winter Youth Olympic Games Gangwon 2024 in thrilling Women’s Giant Slalom at High 1 Ski Resort.

It was 17-year-old Collomb’s second individual medal of Gangwon 2024. Having started her second run with a lead of 0.14 seconds, she slipped out of first place at the first intermediate split, but the speed she gained in the second part of the course took her to victory. Her gold followed silver in the Alpine Combined on Monday.

Shaienne Zehnder (SUI) won silver, 0.11 secs behind Collomb, following her bronze in the women’s Super-G on Sunday. Astrid Hedin (SWE) finished in bronze medal position after climbing five positions in her second run.

With the next Olympic Winter Games in Italy, Milano-Cortina 2026, Collomb’s success adds to the confidence of a strong Italian team looking to have the chance to star in front of their own fans in two years time.

Gangwon 2024 runs until 1 February, with more than 1,800 athletes from 78 NOCs taking part. The Winter Youth Olympic Games is filmed for live television and digital streaming on the Olympic Channel via Olympics.com and the Olympics app, with full session replays and highlights also available.
