Speedo Unveils Custom Canadian Fastskin 2020 Federation Swimsuits

Release Date: 30 Jun 2021

30th June – Speedo, the world’s leading swimwear brand, has today unveiled the Fastskin LZR Racer Pure Intent and Pure Valor swimsuits which will be worn by Canadian national team athletes.

Modelled by Team Speedo stars Kylie Masse, Aurélie Rivard, Sydney Pickrem and Markus Thormeyer, the red and white suits feature a studded graphic print and the familiar sight of a Canadian maple leaf, leaving fans and athletes alike in no doubt which nation they belong to.

The suits feature Speedo’s latest technology, with both the LZR Racer Pure Intent and LZR Racer Pure Valor born out of 20 years of Fastskin heritage. Both have been created with innovative new technologies and fabrics following extensive research, which included studying the ancestry of modern day sharks.

Speedo also worked with the Natural History Museum in London as well as with partners in other industries, including Formula 1, to produce these suits, the smartest to date.

Since the suits were first launched in 2019, they have been responsible for 64% of world records to fall in this period, meaning Canadian swimmers will step onto the blocks in a suit which has dominated the pool for the past two years.

Commenting on the suits, World Championships medallist Sydney Pickrem said: “I love getting to wear Speedo Fastskin whenever I race. It is always comfortable and gives me confidence to swim fast. These custom Canadian Suits are such an amazing addition and makes me so excited to race for Canada!”

World and Commonwealth 100m backstroke champion Kylie Masse added: “The Speedo Valor is so comfortable, flexible and most importantly I feel confident wearing it! Having it custom to Canadian colours with the maple leaf on it makes it even more special and I cannot wait to rock it!”

“It’s fantastic that our longtime partner Speedo have worked to produce a unique bespoke racing suit for our athletes,” said Swimming Canada High Performance Director and National Coach John Atkinson. “Having great technical suits is important for our athletes as they head into the biggest swimming competition since Rio 2016.”

Three-time Paralympic and two-time World Paralympic champion Aurélie Rivard, said: “The speedo Fastskin Pure Intent makes me feel strong and powerful in the water. Wearing speedo gives me confidence that I will swim my fastest. I really love the new Canadian version and I am proud to be representing the Canada.”

World and Commonwealth medalist Markus Thormeyer added: “Ever since I started racing I feel like Speedo suits fit and hug my body and muscles best, allowing me to swim the fastest I can! After a tough year, it is great that Speedo has created something special for Canada. I cannot wait to be racing this summer”

Jim Gerson, Speedo North America President, added: “After one of the toughest years of swimming, we are proud to support Swimming Canada. Athletes have been able to stay strong, adapt to changes in training, and remain positive during the pandemic. We are pleased to provide them a suit that they can be confident with and proud to wear on race day.”

The Speedo Fastskin LZR Pure Intent is designed around a deeper understanding of hydrodynamics and the biomechanics of swimming, with its flexible zoned compression, giving the swimmer a wider range of motion in the legs and making it easier to put on and more comfortable to wear. There are three brand new fabrics, which directly target flexibility, compression and drag reduction in the necessary areas.

The Fastskin LZR Pure Valor is Speedo’s most lightweight technical swimsuit and features moderate compression along with bonded seams for comfort and speed.
