Stronger, more pragmatic EU migration policy needed

Release Date: 30 Apr 2020

The EPP Group's new position paper on migration calls for more funding and staffing of EU agencies to avoid another migration crisis. As lockdowns against the Coronavirus are lifted and the summer months approach, the EU must be ready to deal with larger migrant flows by strengthening Frontex and other agencies that secure the EU's external borders. The EPP Group's Roberta Metsola and Jeroen Lenaers comment on the report, saying a more pragmatic and effective approach is needed to ensure fair treatment of asylum seekers, to be firm against illegal migration, and tougher against traffickers who exploit migrants.
