Development engineers from the agricultural machinery sector have selected three winners from 21 shortlisted nominees; award ceremony on 12 November, 2023, 5 p.m. at the Systems & Components Expert Stage, Hall 17, stand H02, Agritechnica, Hanover, Germany.
(DLG). The DLG (German Agricultural Society) has today announced the winners of its 2023 "Systems & Components Trophy - Engineers' Choice". Part of the Systems & Components event held at the Agritechnica trade fair, 12-18 November in Hanover, Germany, the DLG award scheme, in its third edition, honors agricultural machinery supplier innovations.
From 21 shortlisted finalists, the three winners were selected by a jury consisting of development engineers from selected agricultural machinery manufacturers exhibiting at Agritechnica, the world’s largest exhibition for agricultural machinery.
All 75 high-quality entries were evaluated in the first round by the jury, which was headed by Prof. Till Meinel, TH Köln – University of Applied Sciences and DLG Vice President and Chairman of the DLG Test Centre Technology and Farm Inputs. The jury applied criteria that included practical significance for the industry, benefits in terms of profitability and processes, as well as for the environment and energy consumption, but also improvements in terms of workload and safety.
The award ceremony for the winners will take place on the first day of Agritechnica, 12 November, 2023, at 5 p.m. on the Systems & Components Expert Stage, Hall 17, stand H02.
“In its award ‘Systems & Components Trophy - Engineers' Choice' for components and systems, the DLG recognizes the importance and the innovation of the agricultural technology supplier industry,” said Philippa von Loe, Sales and Brand Manager of the Systems & Compontents trade fair, an integral part of Agritechnica, both organized by the DLG (German Agricultural Society).
Systems & Components Trophy – Engineers' Choice: 2023 award winners
Product: AGCbox
Company: AGREENCULTURE
Hall 7, Stand A20
Today, most autonomous machines are equipped with bumpers, to stop them in the event of collision. Some use LiDAR, radar, or sensor fusion to scan the environment and stop the machine if necessary. These components are well designed to avoid collisions, but they can never prevent a robot from ending up in a high-risk area, such as a road bordering a field. Known solutions such as boundary wires or physical limits are not applicable to farming in large agricultural areas.
The AGCbox of AGREENCULTURE now is the first GNSS-based system that precisely locates the machine and detect when it leaves its work area. Safencing is the world’s first certified geofencing system for off-road applications that fully complies with the Machine Directive 2006/42/CE. With this Safencing function, the AGCbox makes robots truly autonomous and thus overcomes the previous methods of supervision that go against all advantages of robotics.
Product: E.D.I. (Electronic Data Interchange) Driveshaft
Company: Bondioli & Pavesi GmbH Deutschland
Hall 15, Stand E28
It is a fine art to use agricultural machinery as productively as possible without overloading it or causing damage through high and frequent load peaks.
With Bondioli & Pavesi’s E.D.I. Electronic Data Interchange PTO driveshafts farmers will be provided with real time information on the tractor dashboard regarding driveshaft’s status, the power absorbed by the implement, and predictive maintenance. The sensor system includes information on torque, speed, axial force as well as vibrations and monitors the degree of overlap of the two PTO shaft halves. This gives the possibility of optimizing productivity and maintenance, reducing costs and downtime. If coupled with a self-driving tractor without operator it provides info and warnings to the fleet manager.
Product: FLUSTO
Company: Zunhammer GmbH
Hall 23, Stand B33
Pneumatic valves for shut-off, regulation and dosing of liquid manure already exist. They are mainly used to shut off the corresponding number of hoses based on an ISOBUS control and typically operate by inflating an internal balloon or similar element.
The pneumatic FLUSTO valves from Zunhammer GmbH with their all-new structure are designed for a faster and uncomplicated interruption of the flow of liquid manure to the outlets in a fully automated process without disturbing the manure flow when open. Unlike conventional valves no interfering components can be found within. Instead, a separate elastic black liquid manure hose can be compressed pneumatically by applying air pressure into the transparent housing of the valves. Due to the different structure, the FLUSTO valves offer a space-saving design, while the transparency housing is a big advantage in terms of maintenance and troubleshooting.

Editor’s note:
Components and systems from suppliers play a significant role in agricultural machinery. Agricultural machinery manufacturers work closely with their component and systems suppliers to optimize the functionality of the systems on the machines. With the "SYSTEMS & COMPONENTS Trophy - Engineers' Choice", the contribution of the agricultural machinery supply industry is recognized. This award offers suppliers of systems and components the opportunity to present innovative products and ideas to development engineers and to the agricultural machinery manufacturers at large.
The "SYSTEMS & COMPONENTS Trophy - Engineers' Choice", in its third edition, is already established as an ideal complement to the two innovation awards at Agritechnica.
Market-ready agricultural machinery for farmers that fulfil the innovation criteria are honored with the renowned Agritechnica Innovation Award, while the "DLG-Agrifuture Concept Winner" award recognizes innovative visionary concepts that may be launched in 5-10 years.
