Martorell 03/09/2015 – Everything about the SEAT Leon Eurocup 2015 moves on wheels and one of the big reasons for this is down to Yokohama, the official tyre partner and supplier from this current season. The company was founded in Japan in 1917 and is now responsible for equipping and 'booting' the SEAT Leon Cup Racer to delight both drivers and therefore racing fans alike.

During the season the international series ploughs through more than 2000 tyres and each driver can use a maximum of eight wheels per weekend between the practice and qualifying as well as the two races. The tyres for the SEAT Leon Eurocup weigh nine kilos, have a width of 250 millimetres, a diameter of 660mm and are mounted on 18 inch wheels. Drivers can choose between a dry and wet tyre; the latter only when a race is declared 'wet' as it is forbidden to use the profile otherwise. Each tyre, in the dry, can run between 80 and 140km depending on the temperature of the asphalt as well as the driving style of each racer. The rubber for damp conditions has more 'life' but this also depends on many factors.

At a SEAT Leon Eurocup race weekend Yokohama deploy a team of six people who take control of every aspect of the meeting related to tyres. "We are here to help the teams in terms of the best set-up of the car when it comes to the tyres," explains Beppo Burger, Yokohama Technical Director in the international series. "Every driver has the same possibilities to use the eight tyres available to them. Each one carries a barcode that allows us to quickly work and use the right tyre for configuration of the car."

This all forms part of the evolution and progression of the SEAT Leon Eurocup that uses the same technical partner as the World Touring Car Championship (WTCC). "We work in all the countries. As far as I'm aware there is not a country without Yokohama presence or resources. Also, we lend support to between 10-12 racing championships," says Burger. This means that development never stops and the drivers of the SEAT Leon Eurocup can always count on the latest material and ideas concerning issues such as tyre duration, handling, grip and the speed at which they allow the competitors to run.

The next opportunity the drivers of the single make trophy will have to experiment with the elaboration and good work carried out by Yokohama will be at the Nürburgring, on the weekend of the 19th and 20th of September, for what will be the fifth round of the season.
