Release Date: 30 Jul 2021   |   Tokyo

30 Jul 2021 - In collaboration with the International Olympic Committee (IOC), the Worldwide Olympic Partners have launched a variety of programmes and initiatives to support the athletes competing at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020.

From products and services to enhance their Games-time experiences to ongoing programmes to assist in their personal and sporting development, the athletes will benefit from the members of The Olympic Partner (TOP) programme in numerous ways.

Airbnb

Airbnb is offering each participating athlete in Tokyo a USD 500 Travel Grant, which they can use for stays and experiences on Airbnb, either to help them in pursuit of their sporting goals or to enable them to relax and recuperate after the Games.

Airbnb is also hosting an exclusive programme of over 200 Olympian and Paralympian Online Experiences during the Games, giving fans the chance to meet Tokyo 2020 Olympians and Paralympians, non-competing athletes and Tokyo 2020 insiders live from Japan. The hosts span over 50 sports and 30 countries, including refugee athletes. Through their bookings, fans will proudly be supporting their heroes, as the proceeds will provide valuable income to athlete hosts, during and after the Olympic and Paralympic Games Tokyo 2020.

Alibaba

Alibaba’s cloud infrastructure and services are helping to share each athlete’s inspiring performance with viewers around the world. Working with Olympic Broadcasting Services (OBS), Alibaba has developed OBS Cloud – an innovative broadcasting platform that operates entirely on the cloud and allows broadcasters to carry out a significant part of their role remotely while telling the stories of the Olympic athletes in a host of new ways.

Allianz

Allianz has launched two global programmes designed to provide more confidence and mental health support to Olympic athletes competing in Tokyo and beyond. In association with non-profit organisations Love on 4 Paws and Little Angels, Allianz provided a squad of more than 50 emotional support dogs to international skateboarders training for their Olympic debut in Tokyo, including Leticia Bufoni (Brazil) and Dashawn Jordan (USA). In addition, the Allianz Buddy Programme is offering an interactive mentoring and skill development programme to help athletes prepare for life after competition.

Atos

As well as helping to deliver each athlete’s result to the world’s media in real time, Atos will be supporting one of its own employees at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, with Matthieu Androdias (France) set to compete in the men’s double sculls. Androdias, a former world and European champion who will be competing in his third Olympic Games, joined Atos as an analyst developer in 2018 and has been supported throughout his journey to Tokyo.

Bridgestone

In addition to producing the Official Tyre of the Olympic Games, Bridgestone has supplied more than 800 non-motorised bicycles to provide convenient mobility at the Games, including for athletes within the Olympic Village. It has also supplied specially-designed track bicycles for Team Japan athletes competing in the sprint events at the Games, and has supported more than 70 inspiring athletes in 20 countries ahead of Tokyo 2020 as part of its Team Bridgestone initiative.

Coca-Cola

As well as refreshing athletes with its wide range of beverages, Coca-Cola is providing every Olympian with a Powerade-branded squeeze bottle.

GE

GE is supporting the treatment of athletes at the Games. Powered by GE Healthcare’s Edison platform, GE’s proprietary Athlete Medical Records is a cloud-based solution that will allow medical personnel across the Games to access and manage athletes’ medical files in a safe, secure way. This will help clinicians provide proper treatment while protecting athletes’ personal medical data. GE is also providing medical diagnostic equipment for the Polyclinic and the venues.

Intel

In addition to sharing new insights from several athletics events through its 3D Athlete Tracking technology, which will enhance broadcast coverage of the Games, Intel is supporting athletes through initiatives that provide well-being, career mentoring, and learning and development services. Athletes are able to enjoy access to health and wellbeing tools such as Headspace and EXOS, learning and development services from LinkedIn Learning and Intel Learning, plus mentoring and networking services, scholarships, and athlete recruitment opportunities from Intel.

OMEGA

Images of athletes posing next to OMEGA scoreboards displaying their record-breaking time have become synonymous with the Olympic Games, and now the Official Timekeeper is using ground-breaking motion-sensing and positioning systems to provide a totally new understanding of each athlete’s performance. OMEGA’s latest technologies will collect a comprehensive range of real-time data during events to provide athletes, coaches and fans with greater insights than ever before.

P&G

Ahead of the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020, P&G launched a marketing campaign inspired by the many athletes who are not only achieving athletic greatness but are also stepping up to take action for good, making a positive difference in their communities. In addition, it has supported 52 athletes who are doing good in the world through its Athletes for Good Fund, and will be hosting a panel discussion with several of them during Tokyo 2020 to highlight the positive impact of their acts, both on and off the field of play.

Samsung

In collaboration with the IOC, Samsung has provided every athlete competing at the Olympic Games Tokyo 2020 with a new Samsung Galaxy S21 5G mobile device. As part of this programme developed for athletes by the IOC and Samsung, the limited Olympic Edition Galaxy phones will help athletes enhance their Games-time experience, while enabling them to stay connected with family and friends, and capture and share their Olympic journeys.

Toyota

As well as providing a diverse range of innovative mobility solutions for Tokyo 2020, including autonomous vehicles for transporting athletes around the Olympic Village, Toyota is supporting approximately 240 athletes from 43 countries and areas around the world as part of its "Global Team Toyota Athletes" initiative.

Visa

Through its long-standing partnership with the Olympic Games, Visa has played an important role in empowering athletes to be successful both on and off the field of play. Through its Team Visa programme, which was founded in 2000, it has celebrated and supported more than 500 Olympic and Paralympic hopefuls, while providing them with the tools, resources and support they need to achieve their lifelong dreams in sport and life beyond. For Tokyo 2020, Visa is supporting more than 100 athletes spanning 54 markets across 28 sports, including representation from new sports BMX freestyle, skateboarding, sport climbing and surfing.

These efforts demonstrate how important commercial partnerships are to athletes and to the staging of each edition of the Games.

Athletes also benefit year-round from the TOP programme, with the IOC redistributing 90 per cent of all the income it generates to help athletes and sports organisations at all levels around the world.

This includes every National Olympic Committee, providing financial support for the training and development of Olympic teams, Olympic athletes and Olympic hopefuls. Over the years, this has meant that more athletes from more countries have been able to compete at the Olympic Games.
