A few weeks after the 24 Hours of Daytona, Lamborghini Squadra Corse is ready to take up a new challenge: the 12 Hours of Sebring, another classic American endurance race, valid for the IMSA WeatherTech SportsCar Challenge, which will take place in Florida from March 16th - 19th.
To get ready for the race, the teams have brought on track the cars for an official test session in Sebring, which was attended by four of the six Lamborghini Huracán GTDs that will take part in the 12 Hours of mid-March.
The cars were lined up by three customer teams supported by Lamborghini Squadra Corse: Paul Miller Racing and Konrad Motorsport, which already participated in the 24 Hours of Daytona, and the brand new Dream Racing Team, directed by the Italian former Formula 1 driver Enrico Bertaggia. The #27 Huracán GTD of Dream Racing saw behind the wheel Paolo Ruberti, Lawrence DeGeorge, the Lamborghini GT3 factory driver Fabio Babini and the GT3 junior driver Cedric Sbirrazzuoli.
At the end of the testing, the teams received positive feedback from the cars, which were taken onto the track with a revised BoP (Balance of Performance), which involved the following changes: the use of 38-millimetre FIA engine restrictors and a weight increase by 40 kg of the Huracán GTD in comparison with the 24 Hours of Daytona.
Giorgio Sanna, Head of Lamborghini Motorsport, was satisfied with the results and these are his impressions on the two days of testing in Sebring: "Our customer teams did a good job in terms of setup on a track like that of Sebring, which is historically stressful for the car mechanics. Both "Pro" and gentleman drivers said they were sufficiently satisfied with the balance of the car, with a BoP similar to the one used in Europe during the last season and proposed by IMSA in these test sessions, with which we maintain a constant and constructive dialogue from a technical standpoint."
During the four test sessions, divided into two days, all the drivers in GTD class were extremely close to each other in terms of lap times: sixteen cars were enclosed in one second only in Practice 4.
